| I am running v5 but would like to trial v6. How do I do this? |

If you are a current AB Tutor Control v5 user, you may wish to continue running AB Tutor Control but test out v6 for a period of up to 30 days. To do this you must install version 6 on a machine that is not currently running the older version 5. As part of the version 6 MSI install, it will by default first de-install the older version.
Downloading the latest version 6
- Log onto your account in the licence management system and click on the Download v6 button in the top right-hand corner of your home page.
- Download the file abtcsetup6.msi to a clean machine, network drive or memory stick and run the setup program.
Updating an existing version 5 installation.
Important note: we are no longer able to offer upgrades to version 6 for free. Please do not update your current version 5 installations before purchasing version 6 upgrade licenses. You can download and trial version 6 by installing it on a clean machine. (i.e. one that has not had version 5 already installed)
 If you choose to install AB Tutor version 6 on a machine that currenlty has version 5, then v5 will be de-installed automatically. When you are asked to delete all settings and configurations files etc. select No. This will preserve all your passwords, groups, settigs and policies and the new version 6 will be able to read these without the need to re-enter them from scratch. We also suggest you take a backup copy of the ABControl.dat file just in case of problems!
Please make sure you have purchase upgrade licenses prior to doing this otherwise the software will problem a problem when validating the software with our Licence Management System.
 ABTutor Control v6 has replaced the abcontrol.dat file with a file named abcontrol.xml. This file is NOT backward compatible so if you decide to revert to an earlier version of AB Tutor Control, all changes to polices, groups etc. made whilst running v6 cannot be used if you revert back to version 5.
Client Install
Now find and connect to all your clients.
Go to Tools, Client Maintenance and upgrade all your clients to v6. If you are trialing v6, we suggest you just update a few clients to v6 to verify it functions as expected.
Activating version 6 if you decide to upgrade
If you decide that you wish to upgrade to version 6, please contact sales@abconsulting.com to purchase upgrades - see http://www.abconsulting.com/html/Purchase.html for information on purchasing and pricing. As soon as your order has been processed, all you will need to do is enter your account serial number in the dialog box that opens on selecting Help, Licence Activation.
Reverting to v5 if you decide not to upgrade.
If you decide that you do not want to upgrade to v6, simply use the normal Control Panel program to de-install the v6 tutor program. You do not need to alter the client installations. If you have install over your older version 5, then you will need to re-install version 5 once again.
If you changed the connection password on the tutor v6 and client machines, you will need to change the connection password that was originally set in the v5 installation to the new (v6) connection password before you are able to connect to the clients using v5.
