It is not possible to do an automatic update to the latest version of AB Tutor Control from versions 1 and 2.  Instead, you will need to de-install the old version then start a fresh installation.  Please follow the steps outlined below:

1. Find the Identity code of the old installation you wish to upgrade.  (You can get this code by going to Help, About, Register. )

2.  Email this Identity Code to support@abconsulting.com, explaining that the installation is now obsolete and needs to be deleted from your account.  Please also provide the following details so that we can identify your account:

- Your name
- The name of your school or organisation
- Purchase details (e.g. purchase order, invoice no. etc.)

You may need to wait for at most 1 day for us to delete your old installations and free up licences which are needed to activate the later versions.

3. De-install the old version of AB Tutor Control from your machine(s)

4.  Log onto your account in the Licence Management System.

If you do not know your account or logon details, please fill in and submit the logon details request form at https://www.abtutorcontrol.com/abc/html/Upgrade.html

Make a note of your Account Serial Number - you can find this under your address.  You will need this number for activating version 4 or 5 of AB Tutor Control.  As it needs to be transcribed accurately, we would recommend that you copy and paste this rather than type it in by hand.

5. Click on the Download button to download the latest version of AB Tutor Control.

6. Make sure that the computer on which you are installing AB Tutor Control has a clear connection to the Internet and that it is not blocked by firewalls or Internet Filtering software.

7.  Install version 4 or 5 by double-clicking the installation abtcsetup.msi file.  When you have installed the software, launch AB Tutor Control.

8.  Activate the software by going to Help, Licence Activation.

9.  Paste your Account Serial Number into the appropriate box and click on Activate

Proxy Servers

The most likely reason for problems with software activation is connecting to the Internet through a proxy server.  If your school does use a proxy server, you will need to follow the steps below:

1. When you launch version 4, it will attempt to connect to the Internet to verify its licence; depending on various security restrictions, this may fail because you use a proxy server.  You will get a licence failure message appear.

2. Select 'Help' and then 'Licence Activation'.

3. Enter your Account Serial Number.

You can always find your Account Serial Number by logging onto your account in the Licence Management System - see How do I get an account in the Licence Management System?

4. Press Activate again.

5.  If  you now get another failure message as it tries to connect, you need to set up your proxy server.  You will see a 'Setup' button displayed.

6. Press this button to configure your Proxy Server - you may find our knowledgebase item How can I configure AB Tutor Control to run through our proxy server?  helpful.

7. Press Activate once again. This should now connect OK and activate your licence.

Problems connecting to the Licence Management System

If you are not running a proxy server and still cannot activate AB Tutor Control automatically, you are probably blocking AB Tutor Control from connecting to the licence management system over the Internet.

Please check that:

- you have a connection to the Internet

- no firewall or filtering software or other security restriction/policy is preventing AB Tutor Control from connecting to www.abtutorcontrol.com via port 80 (or your specific proxy port).
