Yes, AB Tutor Control can connect to, watch and control  nComputing virtual desktops running Windows.  The only AB Tutor Control function that will not work on nComputing virtual desktops is the remote 'logon' function - everything else functions perfectly.

Configuring AB Tutor Control to connect to nComputing clients

There are two steps that you need to take to install AB Tutor Control on nComputing virtual machines.

1. Install AB Tutor Control on the computer you wish to use to view and control the virtual desktops.   This may be a teacher's laptop, for example.

If you choose to use the host machine as the tutor machine and wish to watch the virtual clients attached to that machine, then you need to install the tutor control software and the client software on the same, host machine.

2. Install the client program on the nComputing host machine.

For information about installing the tutor and client portions of AB Tutor Control, please see Installation Instructions

Connecting to nComputing virtual machines using AB Tutor Control

1. Simply Launch AB Tutor Control and click on 'Find'

The tutor program will find the nComputing Host machine (in this case NCHOST).  Please note, however, that unless you connect to that host computer, you will not see the nComputing virtual machines.

If you are running the AB Tutor Control program on the actual host machine, then the virtual sessions will not be picked up automatically via a 'Find'.  In order to connect to yourself, you must add what's called the loopback IP address (127.0.0.1).  You can do this is one of three ways:

a:  Add this IP address to your Terminal Server list (See ToolsSettings - Terminal Server).  This has the advantage that AB Tutor will always connect to this IP address at launch and so any running nComputing session will be found straight away.

b:  Add this IP address to your Network IP address list (See ToolsSettings - Network).  This will always place this IP address in the main tutor list as long as you do not select a specific Group of machines at startup or when you press Find.

c:  If you use groups of computers, then you can also add this IP address as a direct member of the group.  (See Group - Group Manager ) Then when you connect to that IP address, the sessions will appear.

For further help on creating Groups, or the Settings mentioned above, please read How do I create classroom groups in Version 6

2. Select the host machine and connect to it.

This will bring up the active nComputing clients in the main tutor window.  In this case, there is only one virtual client running - NCHOST (1) i.e. session 1.  You can tell that this is a virtual desktop by the satellite dish on the icon.

Other virtual desktops will appear in the list with the same computer name but with the session numbers in brackets (e.g. NCHOST (2), NCHOST (3) etc.)

3.  Select the nComputing virtual desktops and click on the connect button.

You now will be able to connect to and view and manage the nComputing virtual desktops.
