We have just moved our DHCP service onto another server. As a result alot of the workstations have changed their IP. It seems however that no matter if you delete the machines etc and rescan the old IP addresses are stored by the program. This has resulted in teachers locking PCs etc and computers in other rooms are getting locked too. The only way to get rid of this is to delete the dat file and basically set the program up again.
Is there another way round this?
If you have hard-coded IP addresses into the Tutor program (via the 'Tools' - ' Settings' - 'Network' tab) then yes you will need to re-add the IPs again. We do not recommend adding DHCP IP addressing in this way for the very reason you have discovered.
You should use Classroom Groups to connect to machines. Classroom groups only store the remote computers name not its IP address. In order for the Tutor program to connect to the remote machines, it needs to 'lookup' the machines DHCP IP address from your DNS server. Once the current IP address is returned, the Tutor program can connect.
You must make sure the DNS and DHCP servers sync correctly otherwise you may still connect to the wrong machine.
The machines were in classroom groups which were added from doing a scan. DNS was upto date and I made sure the local cache was purged with a ipconfig /flushdns.
Are you saying that if I add the names manually rather than do a scan and use add to... I wont have this problem?
