Version 3.7 was released on 20th May 2005 and we've implemented some few new features requested by users (plus fixed a few bugs)
Added function to 'Collect Files' from one or more selected workstations and save them locally. See 'Collect Files' menu
Added an Audio Chat feature to allow the Tutor to 'Announce' an audible message to all selected workstations or engage in a 1 to 1 audio conversation. See 'Audio' command menu. Requires multimedia hardware (e.g. Microphone and speakers) I would really appreciate your feedback on this as it's hard to test for all permutations of machines/sound cards etc.
A 'Rename' computer function as been added to enable the Tutor to change the name of a computer in the view list to a more meaningful name. Right-click the mouse on a computers name in the list view and select 'Rename'
The Policy Function has been re-worked and you can now apply a Policy on a temporary or permanent basis. If applied permanently, then the restrictions will remain active for ALL users even when the Tutor Control program is not in use.
When viewing one or more remote workstations, you can 'Right-Click' the mouse to show a popup menu of commands to execute on the workstation you've clicked on. These include: Chat, Audio, Send Message, Lock, Unlock, Login, Logoff, Reboot and Shutdown

Hi,
just so i get this correct, we are currently running version 3.6 on 400 machines. If we wish to update to the new one then we will have to re-installing the software on them all with the new version?
cheers

No. You can use the Automated update function.
- Launch AB Tutor Control
- Select 'Tools' - 'Check for Updates'
- Download and install the update
- Connect to all the machine (I would do 50 at a time)
- Select 'Tools' - 'Client maintenance' and select 'Check for Older Client Programs'
this will send the required files to the remote mchines and apply the update.
- You will need to Reboot the remote machines
.. but that's it!

Hi Andy
I have followed your Automated Update Function instructions but find that the process hangs with an empty command window open titled 'C:\PROGRA~1\ABCONT~\ABCUPD~1.EXE'. It is possible to run ABTutor but it still shows up as Version 3.5. Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers

Hello Kevin
It looks like the update EXE file has not downloaded to your machine correctly. You can either try the update process again or just simply re-download the full 3.7 version and install over your current 3.5 installation. This will not affect your Unlock Code. Once re-installed, connect to your client machines and then perform the automated client update mentioned before (ie. Select 'Tools' - 'Client maintenance' and select 'Check for Older Client Programs' ).
Please let me know if you have any further problems updating.
All the best,
Andy |

Andy - the update seems to have worked ok - thanks for the advice.
Now, however, I keep getting an 'invalid connection password' whenever I try to connect to client machines. I have re-set the password on the Control machine but to no avail - there are still about 7 PCs that I can no longer connect to. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Kevin |
