I am from a secondary school where the children know how to bypass ABTutor (disconnecting ethernet cable and waiting until the control times out). I don't know if there is a way to set the control program to check for new connections.
I think it would be good if there was a control program that was designed to be installed on a server. This server install could have the following features:
* always running
* constant network scan for new connections
* pick up when a new DHCP entry was created or assigned
* deployment
I don't know what the system requirements would be, or if the network traffic would be too high for it to run. If there is adequate interest, I would be happy to trial the program during the test phase.
Poll
Is it better to run the control program on the local machine, or have it running on a server?
Need to remember that if it is installed on a server will it only take up one license? Multiple classrooms using the one server?
Edit
If it were running on a separate server, it would need to reference a domain controllet. Why not make it a requirement to make it run on a read-only domain controller? This could speed up the network by adding another RODC plus giving the Control program direct access to the DNS and DHCP records.
